Message to the Membership

I became a fan of Assiniboine Credit Union during one of my classes in the Asper MBA when an ACU manager presented on ACU’s corporate social responsibility. It was refreshing to learn of a financial institution whose business practices matched my beliefs around environmentalism and social justice. I am very motivated to become actively involved with an organization that does the right things for our community and does it in the right ways. I can contribute to the board through skills and experience gained from being a small business owner for the past 12 years, a school trustee since 2006, and from my post secondary education in arts, law, and business.

Biography

I founded Heartland International English School after teaching in Japan for three years. I have Arts and Law degrees and will soon complete an MBA. I am a school trustee, a runner and an environmentalist. I want to serve ACU members to help make the world a better place.

Q.

ACU aims to have a Board that is representative of the members and communities we serve. We strive for gender balance, ethnic and cultural diversity, and diversity of age and life stage. A gap analysis of the current Board complement has been conducted and, in 2010, we’re looking for strong candidates with skills and experience in finance and environment.

To increase diversity on the Board we are also looking for strong candidates who are male, aboriginal, person of colour, person with a disability, active in the workforce, parent/guardian of school-age children.

Please elaborate on how your presence on the ACU Board would address one or more of these identified gaps.

A.

I am 41.

As a school trustee I am in tune with parental concerns.

Q.

What would be your greatest contribution to the ACU Board?

A.

My greatest contribution to the board will come from drawing on the knowledge I have acquired through a variety of career and life experiences which can be applied through my understanding of the role of governance on a board of directors.
