Message to the Membership

I appreciate the opportunity to stand for re-election to ACU’s Board of Directors.

I believe that my university training (BSc, MBA, PhD in business) and extensive experience as a senior administrator, management consultant, marketing professor, and director on numerous governing and advisory bodies, can benefit ACU, as I serve as one of its 10 Directors and chair its Human Resources Policy & Compensation Committee. I consider my strengths to be strong conceptual, analytical, and strategic thinking, combined with sound and compassionate judgment. I understand the content, issues, and practices relating to all major areas of ACU’s internal and external environment, including corporate governance; community and government relations; financial and legal affairs; marketing and corporate strategy; and human resource, labor relations, and equity and diversity matters. In addition, I have a record of commitment to business and community economic development and to bettering the lives of employees, members, and disadvantaged community groups.

I am proud of ACU’s accomplishments in serving its members, in supporting the broader community, and in exercising sound practices of good governance.

I would be honoured to continue to serve as one of ACU’s Directors.

The Nominating Committee asked

Q.

Please list your experience working on a board or committee.

A.

Director, ACU (Chair, HR Policy & Compensation Committee)

Past Director of Canada’s National Research Council (and Executive and Human Resource Committees)

Past member on boards of Centra Gas (Manitoba), Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business (Manitoba), Brandon Chamber of Commerce, Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, Council of Western Canadian University Presidents (Chair), University of Swaziland, and St. John’s Ravenscourt School

Q.

ACU aims to have a Board that is representative of the members and communities we serve. We strive for gender balance, ethnic and cultural diversity, and diversity of age and life stage. A gap analysis of the current Board complement has been conducted and, in 2010, we’re looking for strong candidates with skills and experience in finance and environment.

To increase diversity on the Board we are also looking for strong candidates who are male, aboriginal, person of colour, person with a disability, active in the workforce, parent/guardian of school-age children.

Please elaborate on how your presence on the ACU Board would address one or more of these identified gaps.

A.

As I am at a mature stage in family/career life cycle and Caucasian, I do not fit the identified gaps, per se. However, I have experience in dealing with aboriginal communities and I help support several disabled relatives.

Q.

What would be your greatest contribution to the ACU Board?

A.

Use my strong conceptual, analytical, and strategic thinking skills to help ACU reach sound balanced decisions in pursuit of its financial and social responsibility mission. Assist as a team player and at an oversight level as ACU analyzes strengthens and changes its corporate and marketing strategies.
